Every year, lakhs of students take the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test for Undergraduate (NEET UG) in India to secure admission into medical courses such as MBBS and BDS. Given the large number of candidates, it is common for students to achieve the same scores. To address this, the National Testing Agency (NTA) employs a detailed tie-breaking system. The first criterion is the total marks in Biology, as it has the highest weightage in the exam. If Biology scores are tied, the next comparison is Chemistry marks, followed by Physics. Should the scores remain equal across all subjects, the NTA evaluates the accuracy of the answers, favoring students with fewer incorrect responses. In the rare event that all criteria are identical, a random selection process overseen by an expert committee may be implemented. These rules are vital during the counselling and seat allotment phases, as even minor differences in rank can significantly affect admission prospects in prestigious institutions like AIIMS. The NTA is expected to release the final answer key and results for NEET UG 2026 shortly, allowing candidates to check their All India Rank and qualifying status on the official website.
