In a notable effort to preserve Bihar's cultural heritage, rare Dhrupad manuscripts composed by the Bettiah Maharaja have been digitized and made available on the Gyan Bharatam app. These manuscripts, believed to have been written by Raja Nawal Kishore in the mid-19th century, reflect the rich musical traditions of the Bettiah Raj court. District art and culture officer Rakesh Kumar stated that the manuscripts were safeguarded by Pandit Inder Kishore Mishra during a survey for the Gyan Bharatam mission, which aims to document manuscripts over 75 years old across India. Mishra, a descendant of a prominent Dhrupad vocalist, emphasized the historical significance of these manuscripts, known locally as Bhojpatra, which have been passed down through generations. Bettiah Raj, once one of the largest principalities in Bihar, encompasses several districts and has had its properties recently managed by the Bihar government for public welfare.
