MIT has partnered with Georgia State University and a network of educational institutions to launch the PATH (Pathways for AI Training and Hiring) initiative. This multiyear program focuses on providing effective and affordable AI training, particularly through community colleges, to equip both entry-level and current workers with industry-relevant skills. Cynthia Breazeal, principal investigator of PATH, emphasizes the need for practical AI skill sets that combine technical knowledge with professional and ethical skills. The initiative is establishing state-based hubs that collaborate with regional employers to create tailored curricula. The first two hubs have launched in Massachusetts and Georgia, with over 1,000 students enrolled in courses at Georgia State University. Students engage in hands-on projects that reflect real industry challenges, fostering collaboration and communication skills. The initiative is supported by a grant from Google.org, aiming to build a multi-state network for AI workforce development. By connecting research universities, community colleges, and industry partners, PATH aims to create sustainable career pathways in the rapidly evolving AI landscape.
