Akhilesh Yadav (national president of the Samajwadi Party) has made a significant electoral promise for the 2027 Uttar Pradesh assembly elections, vowing to provide 300 units of free electricity to consumers if his party comes to power. Additionally, he announced an annual pension of ₹40,000 (approximately $480 USD) for women, aiming to address economic concerns in the state. In a recent statement, Yadav highlighted the struggles faced by residents due to poor healthcare services and the issues arising from the implementation of smart electricity meters. He claimed that these meters are causing harassment to consumers and likened them to electronic voting machines (EVMs) that can be manipulated. Yadav expressed that the public's dissatisfaction with rising electricity bills and gas prices would ultimately lead to the BJP losing its grip on power. He emphasized the need for party workers to unite and coordinate efforts to ensure a decisive victory over the BJP in the upcoming elections.
