Ashok Gehlot, a senior Congress leader and former Chief Minister of Rajasthan, has sharply criticized the Central government for raising domestic LPG cylinder prices by ₹29, effective June 7. He stated that this increase has severely disrupted household budgets and kitchen management, particularly affecting women. Gehlot highlighted that rising fuel prices, including petrol and diesel, have compounded inflationary pressures, leaving households struggling to cope. He noted that previous hikes, including a ₹60 increase in March, were influenced by global energy market fluctuations. In response, officials from the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas defended the government's actions, citing measures to ensure adequate LPG supply, such as increased domestic production and secured imports. They also mentioned that the under-recovery on domestic LPG remains significant, around ₹700 per cylinder, and attributed a recent drop in LPG demand to various factors, including reduced consumption by commercial users and improved delivery systems.
