Transport operators in Kolkata, West Bengal, have reported that the recent fuel price hike will lead to an approximate 3% increase in freight costs. Petrol prices in Kolkata surged by ₹3.29, reaching ₹108.74 per litre, while diesel prices rose by ₹3.11 to ₹95.13 per litre. This increase is the highest among the four metropolitan cities in India. In Delhi, petrol prices increased to ₹97.77 per litre, while in Mumbai and Chennai, prices reached ₹106.68 and ₹103.67 respectively. Sunil Agarwal, joint secretary of the All India Transporters' Welfare Association, noted that the rise was anticipated due to the ongoing geopolitical tensions and urged the government to ensure that traders do not disproportionately raise product prices. He also highlighted that the overall impact on transport costs would be minor, but suggested that state governments could alleviate some of the burden by reducing local taxes. The additional cost burden on transport operators is estimated to be around ₹50-60 per day.
