In Borivali, Mumbai, more than 150 participants gathered for the city's first 'Janta Durbar', focusing on issues related to the Slum Rehabilitation Authority (SRA). Attendees raised concerns about delays in receiving rehabilitation flats, unpaid transit housing rent, and problems with biometric verification. Union Minister Piyush Goyal, who organized the forum, responded to these issues by urging SRA officials to take decisive action against developers who default on rents and delay projects. During the session, 13 proposals for housing for project-affected people (PAP) were approved, while five others were streamlined. Goyal stressed the importance of prioritizing rehabilitation for local residents, including those living on footpaths, ensuring they are provided with proper housing equipped with essential amenities like toilets and drinking water. He also encouraged citizens to be cautious of developers making false promises and vowed to hold similar forums in the future to address broader governmental concerns.
