Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan convened a high-level meeting on Thursday to discuss the preparations for a re-examination of the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET-UG) after the original test, scheduled for May 3, was canceled due to allegations of a paper leak. The meeting, attended by senior officials including Vineet Joshi (Higher Education Secretary) and Abhishek Singh (Director General of the National Testing Agency), focused on enhancing security protocols and coordinating logistics across states to ensure a smooth re-conduct of the exam. The National Testing Agency (NTA) had announced the cancellation following allegations that several questions in the exam matched previously circulated “guess papers,” leading to protests from students and opposition groups. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has been tasked with investigating the alleged leak. In response to the controversy, the Federation of All India Medical Associations (FAIMA) has approached the Supreme Court, advocating for the replacement of the NTA and for the new examination to be conducted under judicial supervision. The government is working to restore confidence in the examination process and address calls for broader reforms in the conduct of national entrance examinations.
