A recent 'scoring issue' with the spring ACT has resulted in inaccurate test results for high school students across the United States. ACT, Inc. informed school district test coordinators on May 13 that scores for students who took the online test during school-day testing would need to be reissued or removed. According to Juan Elizondo, the director of strategic communications for ACT, most affected students are juniors or younger, with less than 5% of high school seniors impacted. The scoring issue arose from a problem in the scoring process, not from variations in test difficulty. Elizondo detailed that for each subject, the majority of scores will remain the same or increase slightly: 95% of reading scores, 99% of science scores, 97% of math scores, and 98% of English scores will either stay the same or go up by one point. Students do not need to take any action as ACT will automatically resend updated scores to their high schools and selected colleges or scholarship organizations, with the revised scores expected to be available no later than June 2.
