With the Noida International Airport set to begin commercial operations on June 15, authorities are undertaking a significant infrastructure upgrade to facilitate better connectivity between Delhi, Noida, and Jewar. A major component of this plan is the transformation of the embankment road along the Yamuna River into a 10-lane bypass. Currently, the road is four lanes wide and will first be expanded to six lanes before reaching its final capacity. This upgrade is deemed essential due to the expected surge in traffic once the airport becomes operational. The bypass will start from Sector 94 in Delhi and extend to Gharbara village in Greater Noida, connecting directly to the Yamuna Expressway. Additionally, the project will integrate with the Chilla Elevated Road, which is under construction and aims to alleviate traffic congestion further. The 5.9-km elevated road is expected to be completed by December 2024. The Uttar Pradesh Expressways Industrial Development Authority (UPEIDA) and other local authorities have begun site inspections, with a feasibility study and Detailed Project Report (DPR) to follow. The project cost will be jointly funded by the Noida, Greater Noida, and Yamuna authorities, marking a significant step in enhancing regional infrastructure ahead of the airport's launch.
