The Chennai division of Southern Railway has achieved remarkable success by earning ₹74.56 crore in parcel revenue for the fiscal year 2025-26, surpassing its target of ₹74.22 crore. This achievement reinforces its status as a significant freight and logistics hub within Indian Railways. The growth is attributed to innovative freight initiatives, enhanced infrastructure, and a notable increase in demand for parcel services. A significant contribution to this revenue came from the transportation of 1,288 tonnes of tyres from Korukkupet and Tambaram to various destinations across India. Additionally, the division has collaborated with the Central Warehousing Corporation to operate a Parcel Cargo Express Train, which carries branded tyres to Okhla. To further support future growth, Southern Railway has commissioned new parcel offices at Chengalpet and Jolarpet, with proposals for additional parcel terminals at Royapuram, Tada, and Mundiyampakkam.
