A complaint has been lodged with the Kolkata Police against Tollywood actors Parambrata Chatterjee and Swastika Mukherjee, alleging that their social media posts incited violence following the 2021 West Bengal Assembly elections. Advocate Joydeep Sen filed the complaint at Gariahat police station, citing a tweet by Chatterjee on May 2, 2021, in which he suggested declaring the day as 'World Bashing Day.' This tweet was allegedly made around the time when violence against Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) supporters was escalating. The complaint states that Chatterjee's message appeared to encourage violence, particularly in light of the murder of Abhijit Sarkar, a BJP worker, shortly after the tweet was posted. Mukherjee is accused of endorsing Chatterjee's tweet, further inciting organized violence against BJP supporters. Chatterjee did not respond to inquiries, while Mukherjee remained silent on the matter. The backdrop of the complaint includes widespread allegations of post-poll violence after the Trinamool Congress (TMC) secured a third consecutive term, leading to a CBI investigation and the establishment of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) by the Calcutta High Court to address these serious allegations.
