Kolkata Police arrested 27-year-old Hasnain Iqbal for allegedly threatening West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari with a suicide bomb attack, claiming assistance from Al-Qaeda. The arrest occurred on Friday night following an investigation by the cyber cell and the Special Task Force (STF). Iqbal sent a threatening email to the Bhabanipur Police Station on May 14, impersonating a woman and stating that a suicide attack would take place. During the investigation, authorities traced the email to Iqbal, a resident of Golam Abbas Lane in Garden Reach, who later confessed to sending the email. He has a high school education and is proficient in IT, which allowed him to manipulate IP addresses. The police suspect that Iqbal's motive was personal enmity against the woman whose identity he used, aiming to harass her and her family. This incident comes shortly after two online content creators were arrested in Dinhata for posting offensive material against Adhikari, highlighting ongoing tensions in the region regarding public discourse.
