The Indian National Congress has designated Mukul Wasnik (AICC general secretary) and Ajay Maken (party treasurer) as observers to collect feedback from newly-elected Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs) in Kerala. This decision comes after the Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) achieved a significant victory in the recent Kerala Assembly elections, winning 102 seats out of 140. The Congress party emerged as the largest party with 63 seats, marking the end of a 10-year rule by the Left government. Wasnik and Maken will travel to Kerala to gather insights from MLAs regarding the appointment of the Congress Legislature Party leader, who will likely become the next chief minister. Among the contenders for this position are KC Venugopal, V D Satheesan, and Ramesh Chennithala. Following the election results, Venugopal was welcomed in New Delhi and engaged in discussions with senior Congress leaders regarding the formation of the new government.
