Prime Minister Narendra Modi will arrive in Gothenburg, Sweden, on May 17 for a two-day visit, marking his first since the 2018 India-Nordic Summit. This trip, at the invitation of Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson, aims to strengthen bilateral relations through discussions on trade, innovation, artificial intelligence, and emerging technologies. The agenda includes bilateral talks focusing on enhancing trade and investment ties, particularly in green transition, defense, space, and climate action. Modi and Kristersson will address the European Round Table for Industry alongside European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen. The visit is significant following the recent conclusion of the India-EU Free Trade Agreement, as India seeks to deepen its economic engagement with Europe. With bilateral trade reaching $7.75 billion in 2025 and Swedish investments in India totaling $2.825 billion, the discussions are expected to foster cooperation under the India-Sweden Joint Action Plan and the Joint Innovation Partnership initiated in 2018.
