Sundar C, known for his creative filmmaking style, has stepped away from directing the much-anticipated film featuring Tamil cinema icons Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan, tentatively titled Thalaivar 173. Announced in November 2022 and expected to release around Pongal 2027, Sundar C cited overwhelming pressure as the reason for his exit. In a recent interview with Behindwoods, he reflected on the challenges of managing a project of such magnitude, stating, 'I felt the pressure and realized I couldn’t stay true to the project or the people involved.' He confirmed that he personally informed Rajinikanth of his decision before it was made public. Following his departure, director Cibi Chakaravarthi has been appointed to take over the project. Sundar C expressed regret over leaving the film, acknowledging the significance of the opportunity to work with two of Tamil cinema's greatest actors. He emphasized that while he cherishes the moments spent with Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan, he must prioritize his own creative integrity.
