Sanjay Nishad, a minister in Uttar Pradesh and leader of the Nishad Party, has publicly questioned the police's encounter killing of Kamlesh Bind, who was implicated in the murder of businessman Vineet Rai in Ghazipur district. Bind was shot by police during an alleged encounter after they claimed he fired upon them when asked to stop. However, Bind's wife accused the police of brutally assaulting him before his death. Nishad labeled the encounter as 'fake' and demanded an investigation, expressing concern that such police actions could alienate the Bind community, which is significant in Ghazipur and nearby areas. He emphasized that the ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA) could face electoral repercussions in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, particularly in constituencies close to Varanasi, the parliamentary seat of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The incident has sparked protests, with demonstrators clashing with police, further intensifying the scrutiny of police conduct in the state.
