Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced on Sunday that Ukraine and India are in the process of finalizing a new security cooperation arrangement. This announcement follows high-level discussions in New Delhi between Rustem Umerov, Secretary of Ukraine’s National Security and Defense Council, and Indian officials, including National Security Adviser Ajit Doval and External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar. Zelenskyy emphasized the importance of air defense and military support for Ukraine, indicating that more security arrangements are forthcoming. During the meetings, Doval reiterated India's commitment to a peaceful resolution of the Russia-Ukraine conflict, a stance that has been consistent since the war began in February 2022. Umerov expressed gratitude for India's understanding of the need for lasting peace and discussed the implementation of agreements made during Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Ukraine in August 2024. The ongoing conflict has led to significant casualties, and while the U.S. has attempted to broker peace talks, a resolution remains elusive. India continues to navigate a diplomatic path, seeking to enhance bilateral cooperation while contributing to peace efforts.
