Hemant Soren, the Chief Minister of Jharkhand and president of the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM), expressed gratitude to the people of Assam for their support in the recent assembly elections. He stated that the JMM's decision to contest was driven by a commitment to advocate for the rights, dignity, and identity of tribal, Dalit, and minority communities in Assam. Soren pointed out the deplorable conditions faced by these groups, including the denial of Scheduled Tribe (ST) status and inadequate wages for tea garden workers. Despite limited resources and lacking major alliances, the JMM contested 16 seats, achieving second place in two and receiving over 15,000 votes in seven others. This performance, according to Soren, marks the beginning of a stronger presence for the JMM in Assam, emphasizing the need to raise tribal issues at the national level. He concluded by reaffirming the party's commitment to this cause, stating that the struggle for existence, identity, and rights will continue.
