Chief Secretary K. Ramakrishna Rao emphasized the Telangana government's commitment to enhancing the viability of Primary Agriculture Cooperative Societies (PACS) during a recent State Cooperative Development Committee meeting. He highlighted the potential for growth in the cooperative sector, particularly in dairy and fisheries, which can create significant employment opportunities in rural areas. The Chief Secretary urged officials to prioritize capacity building, diversification, and the adoption of modern technology to ensure these institutions remain competitive and sustainable. Currently, 60,925 cooperative societies operate in the state, reflecting a robust cooperative movement. The government is also working to transition 311 PACS into Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs) to improve farmers' market access and collective bargaining. Additionally, a comprehensive State Cooperative Policy is being developed to provide strategic direction for the sector's modernization, focusing on professional management and digital transformation. This initiative aligns with the Central government's efforts to computerize PACS, aiming to enhance transparency and service delivery in cooperative societies.
