Hyundai Motor Company and TVS Motor Company have formed a strategic partnership to develop and commercialise electric three-wheelers in India, focusing on the burgeoning last-mile mobility market. The joint development agreement, signed recently, aims to co-design and manufacture a new generation of battery-powered three-wheelers. Hyundai will contribute its design and research capabilities, while TVS Motor will leverage its engineering and manufacturing expertise, given its established presence in the domestic market. Production will take place in India, with TVS overseeing domestic sales and future exports. The companies plan to launch the first model after completing necessary testing and regulatory approvals, ensuring features suitable for tropical climates and various applications, including passenger transport and cargo services. This initiative aligns with India's push for electrification to combat urban pollution and reduce fossil fuel reliance, as emphasized by discussions between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Hyundai Motor Group's executive chair during the 2018 India-Korea Business Forum.
