Mid Valley Disposal, a waste management company based in Fresno, California, has launched a significant expansion with a new AI-enhanced processing line costing $12 million. This state-of-the-art facility, the largest of its kind between Los Angeles and San Francisco, incorporates three AI-powered robots designed to sort valuable recyclables such as cardboard, aluminum, glass, and plastic. The introduction of this technology is projected to increase the company’s throughput from 35 to 60 tons of recyclable materials per hour, while also improving the quality of sorted materials and reducing waste sent to landfills. The operational efficiency will allow the company to cut down its working hours from six days a week to five, while also creating 20 new jobs for maintenance of the robots. The project was supported by a $4.5 million grant from Cal Recycle, reflecting a commitment to sustainability and local economic growth in Central California, as emphasized by Fresno Mayor Jerry Dyer.
