In a historic electoral breakthrough, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) won two out of five Assembly constituencies in Karaikal district, part of the Union Territory of Puducherry. Among the notable outcomes, V. Vigneshwaran, a rebel from the BJP, won the Nedungadu (SC) constituency as an independent candidate. He achieved a decisive victory over the incumbent S. Chandrapriyanga of the All India N.R. Congress (AINRC), securing 14,368 votes against her 9,869 votes, resulting in a margin of 4,499 votes. The other constituencies were won by the All India N.R. Congress, the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), and an Independent candidate, each claiming one seat.
