The Election Commission of India (ECI) has established new post-poll guidelines for the upcoming West Bengal Assembly elections, emphasizing strict protocols for handling surveillance camera data. According to the guidelines issued on April 23, 2026, SD cards from polling booth cameras must not be removed immediately after voting concludes. Instead, they can only be taken out at designated data collection centers in the presence of the Assistant Returning Officer. This measure aims to enhance the integrity of the electoral process. In a related development, following the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, which concluded on the same day, the ECI has ensured the secure transport of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) and other voting materials to 62 counting centers across the state. These centers will be heavily guarded by police and armed forces to maintain security during the counting process, scheduled for May 4.
