Tesla is recalling 218,868 vehicles due to a safety issue involving delayed rearview camera images that could increase the risk of a crash. The recall affects several models, including the 2021-2023 Model Y, 2021-2023 Model 3, 2021-2023 Model S, and 2021-2023 Model X. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) reported that the rearview camera display may be delayed when the vehicle is put into reverse, potentially compromising driver visibility. Although there have been 27 warranty claims and two field reports linked to the issue, Tesla confirmed that no accidents, fatalities, or injuries have occurred as a result of this problem. To address the issue, Tesla will issue a free over-the-air software update, with 99.92% of affected vehicles already having successfully loaded the remedy firmware. This recall follows a recent NHTSA investigation into Tesla vehicles regarding a different feature that allowed remote movement of cars, which was found to be linked to low-speed incidents.
