The Indian government has sanctioned the development of a ₹1,570 crore ($190 million USD) ship repair facility in Vadinar, Gujarat. This state-of-the-art project, to be implemented by the Deendayal Port Authority (DPA) and Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL), features a 650-meter-long jetty and two floating dry docks designed for the repair and maintenance of large ships up to 300 meters long. Currently, such ships often require repairs abroad, incurring higher costs and longer wait times. The new facility aims to bolster India's self-reliance in maritime services. It is strategically located near major shipping routes and ports like Mundra and Kandla, making it an ideal site for a ship repair hub. The project is expected to create approximately 290 direct jobs and over 1,100 indirect jobs, benefiting local businesses and the economy. This facility represents a significant advancement in India's ship repair technology and capacity, positioning the country to compete more effectively in the global market.
