Gujarat, India, is preparing for the 2027 Census with a significant shift towards digital data collection. The Directorate of Census Operations has introduced a self-enumeration portal, allowing residents to voluntarily submit household information online from May 17 to May 31, 2026. This initiative aims to enhance accuracy and ease of participation in the census process. Following this phase, traditional door-to-door listings will take place from June 1 to June 30, 2026, where enumerators will utilize a mobile application to collect data digitally, reducing the reliance on paper forms. Sujal J. Mayatra, the Director of Census, highlighted the importance of the data for national planning and emphasized the confidentiality of the information collected under the Census Act of 1948. Citizens are encouraged to participate actively, as the census results will significantly influence development and resource distribution in the state over the next decade.
