Ahead of a significant trust vote scheduled for Wednesday, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay is receiving backing from a faction of 30 AIADMK leaders, including senior figures SP Velumani and C Ve Shanmugam. This group has openly criticized the leadership of party chief Edappadi K Palaniswami, particularly in light of the AIADMK's disappointing performance in the April 2023 assembly elections, where it secured only 47 out of 164 seats. Shanmugam stated that they plan to meet with Vijay to formally express their support, arguing that any alliance with the DMK contradicts the foundational principles of the AIADMK, which was established to oppose the DMK. The AIADMK leadership has dismissed these claims as mere rumors, accusing the dissenting leaders of seeking personal gain and asserting that the party's grassroots support remains with Palaniswami. Meanwhile, the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), which made a strong electoral debut with 108 seats, is actively seeking support from smaller parties to achieve a majority of 118 seats. In a related development, the Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam (AMMK) expelled a party MLA for supporting Vijay's government.
