The second phase of the West Bengal assembly elections has come under scrutiny due to allegations of tampering with Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) in Falta, part of the Diamond Harbour constituency. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has accused election officials of obstructing voters from selecting their party. West Bengal's Chief Electoral Officer, Manoj Agarwal, indicated that the Election Commission is likely to announce repolling in booths where tampering is confirmed. This decision will be based on reports from district election officers and observers regarding the alleged use of tape or ink on EVMs. Amit Malviya, head of the BJP's IT cell, shared a video claiming that white tape was placed over the BJP's symbol in specific booths, demanding a repoll. The Election Commission has not yet verified the video's authenticity but is examining the complaints. Agarwal noted that if significant tampering is reported across multiple booths, a repoll for the entire constituency could be considered. So far, the Commission has received 2,196 complaints related to the polling process, and presiding officers were instructed to ensure that EVM buttons remain fully visible and unobstructed.
