In a significant ruling, the Bombay High Court declared the arrests of Sheetal Tejwani, a businesswoman involved in the Mundhwa Mahar Watan land fraud case, illegal. Tejwani, aged 44, was arrested by Pune police in connection with three FIRs related to the alleged illegal sale of 41 acres of state government land valued at approximately ₹1,800 crore (around $216 million USD). The court ordered her release on bail for two of the FIRs, but her plea for the third arrest was denied. The allegations suggest that Tejwani acted as a power of attorney holder for 272 alleged landholders, who reportedly sold the land to Amadea Enterprises LLP for ₹300 crore (about $36 million USD). The court noted that the grounds for her arrest were not communicated properly, which led to the ruling. However, it dismissed her challenge regarding the first arrest, stating that she had previously executed multiple documents in Marathi, the language used for her arrest notice.
