Thol. Thirumavalavan, the founder of the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK), has distanced himself from reports suggesting he could become Tamil Nadu's first Chief Minister from the Scheduled Castes. On May 14, 2026, he stated that he was unaware of any internal discussions within the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) regarding this matter. His comments followed allegations from AIADMK rebel leader C.Ve. Shanmugam, who claimed that AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami had obstructed a chance for a Scheduled Caste Chief Minister. Thirumavalavan mentioned that he had only heard from close associates about such discussions. He also addressed claims that the VCK had delayed its political decisions, asserting that the party had been clear about consulting internally and aligning with the Left parties. He reiterated that he remains part of the DMK alliance and is not involved with any other political fronts. Thirumavalavan suggested that inquiries about AIADMK's interest in his candidacy should be directed to their leadership.
