Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay has revoked the appointment of Rickey Radhan Pandit Vettrivel as Officer on Special Duty (OSD) just one day after it was announced. This decision follows widespread criticism from both opposition parties and allies, who expressed concerns that personal beliefs, such as astrology, should not dictate governance. Vettrivel, known for his role as an astrologer and spokesperson for the Tamizhaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), had been a close aide to Vijay during the recent election campaign. Various political parties, including the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK), Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPI(M)), and Communist Party of India (CPI), criticized the appointment, asserting that it undermines the secular nature of the government. Congress MP Sasikanth Senthil questioned the necessity of having an astrologer in a government position, while VCK general secretary D Ravikumar labeled the move unacceptable in a secular context.
