India has solidified its position as the world's largest recipient of remittances, with inflows reaching $138 billion in 2024, as reported by the International Organization for Migration in the World Migration Report 2026. This figure marks a significant increase from $53 billion in 2010, showcasing the growing economic impact of the Indian diaspora, which is estimated to be around 19 million people. The report highlights that Indian workers and professionals in countries such as the United States, United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom, Canada, and Australia have significantly contributed to this growth. Following India, Mexico ranks second in remittances with $68 billion, while China recorded $48 billion in 2022. Additionally, the report points out changing migration trends, noting a rise in high-skilled migration from India, particularly in sectors like technology, healthcare, and engineering. India continues to be a major source country for student migration, reflecting its expanding global presence in skilled labor markets.
