Himanta Biswa Sarma has been elected as the leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Legislature Party and is set to take the oath as Chief Minister of Assam on May 12. The BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) achieved a significant victory in the recent assembly elections, securing 82 seats in the 126-member Assembly, alongside its allies, the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) and Bodoland People's Front (BPF), who won 10 seats each. Sarma expressed his heartfelt gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the support in forming the government for a third consecutive term, emphasizing the commitment to development over the next five years. The announcement of Sarma's leadership was made by Union Minister J P Nadda, who noted that eight BJP legislators proposed his name. Following this, Sarma and other NDA leaders will meet with Assam's Governor, Lakshman Prasad Acharya, to discuss the formation of the new government.
