Himanta Biswa Sarma has been unanimously elected as the leader of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) Legislature Party in Assam, ensuring his second term as Chief Minister. The announcement was made by BJP national president J P Nadda during a meeting of newly elected NDA legislators in Guwahati. Sarma's election was supported by senior party leaders and allies, including the Asom Gana Parishad and Bodoland People's Front. Following a decisive victory in the recent Assembly elections, where the NDA secured 102 seats compared to the opposition's 75 seats, Sarma expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the opportunity to lead the state government for a third consecutive term. The new government is set to take oath on May 12, with Sarma promising to focus on development initiatives to advance Assam's status as one of India's most developed states.
