The Tamil Nadu Higher Secondary School Headmasters’ Association, during its general council meeting in Nagapattinam, urged the state government to ensure that Tamizh Thai Vazhthu is sung first at all official events. The association's State general secretary, Gnanasekaran, pointed out that more than 2,500 government higher secondary schools have been operating without sufficient non-teaching staff for nearly 30 years, impacting school maintenance and student enrollment. They called on the government to fill vacant positions through the Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission. Additionally, Gnanasekaran noted that headmasters have not been promoted in 50 years, despite legal appeals, and urged the government to amend existing rules to facilitate promotions. The association also requested that seniority be considered for filling senior positions like Chief Educational Officer and proposed the establishment of separate directorates for high schools and higher secondary schools, akin to the Directorate of Elementary Education. Gnanasekaran criticized the recent swearing-in ceremony where Tamizh Thai Vazhthu was sung third, insisting on its priority in future official functions.
