Ahead of the West Bengal Assembly elections scheduled for April 23, the Election Commission of India has enforced significant restrictions on two-wheeler movement across the state. Starting from April 21, motorcycles and scooters will not be allowed on roads between 6 pm and 6 am, except for medical emergencies and essential family functions. Additionally, pillion riding during the day is prohibited, although family members can travel as pillion riders on polling day to facilitate voting. The Commission has also banned bike rallies to prevent intimidation and disruption during the election period. Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar emphasized the importance of ensuring a peaceful environment for voters. These restrictions come amid tensions with the ruling Trinamool Congress, which has accused the Election Commission of unfair practices benefiting the Bharatiya Janata Party. Both the Commission and the BJP have dismissed these allegations as baseless.
