The District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission in Ambala, led by Neena Sandhu, has ordered the replacement of an Audi Q3 SUV worth ₹43 lakh (approximately $52,000 USD) after the buyer, Rajesh Batra, reported significant safety issues. Batra purchased the vehicle on August 20, 2023, but began experiencing problems with the instrument cluster, which displayed a 'Safety system fault' and indicated airbag malfunctions. Despite several visits to the dealer, Ashwani Automobiles Ltd in Chandigarh, and attempts to rectify the issue, the problems persisted. The court found that the dealer and manufacturer, Audi India Division of Sakoda Auto Volkswagen India Pvt Ltd, failed to address the defects adequately. In addition to ordering the replacement of the vehicle, the court awarded Batra ₹7,000 for mental anguish and ₹5,000 for litigation costs, emphasizing that consumers should not face safety-related issues shortly after purchasing a new vehicle.
