A catastrophic explosion in Kaunghtup village, located in Namkham Township, Myanmar, has resulted in the deaths of over 45 individuals and left approximately 70 others injured, many in critical condition. The blast occurred around noon on Sunday at a site used for storing explosives intended for mining operations. The area is situated about 3 kilometers south of the Chinese border and is under the control of the Ta’ang National Liberation Army (TNLA), a rebel group engaged in conflict with the Myanmar government. Rescue workers reported recovering 46 bodies, including six children, and transporting 74 injured individuals to a local hospital. The TNLA confirmed that the explosives, specifically gelignite, were stockpiled for mining activities and stated that an investigation into the explosion's cause is ongoing. The explosion also caused significant damage, affecting more than 100 houses in the vicinity, with images showing extensive debris and destruction.
