In a significant cabinet expansion, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay is set to welcome the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) allies, Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) and Indian Union Muslim League (IUML), into his government. VCK Chief Thol Thirumavallavan announced that Vanni Arasu will be sworn in as a minister during a ceremony on Friday. This move will increase the number of Dalit ministers in Vijay's cabinet to eight, marking the highest proportional representation for the Dalit community in Tamil Nadu's history. The IUML will also have representation with AM Shah Jahan taking the oath as a minister. Earlier, Vijay accommodated 23 new legislators, including two from the Congress party, which is notable as it marks the first time in nearly 60 years that the national party has joined the Tamil Nadu government. The cabinet now features a diverse representation, including two Brahmins, four women ministers, and ministers from various minority communities. Notably, all ministers, except for senior leader and Revenue Minister K A Sengottaiyan, are first-time MLAs and ministers, indicating a fresh approach in governance.
