C V Anand, a senior Indian Police Service (IPS) officer, has officially assumed the role of Director General of Police (DGP) for Telangana as of May 1. Anand, who is a member of the 1991 IPS batch, previously held the position of Special Chief Secretary in the Home Department. He takes over from B Shivadhar Reddy, who retired on April 30 and will now serve as a state security advisor. Anand's career began as an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) in the Warangal Rural sub-division, where he spent the first nine years of his service in naxal-affected areas, leading operations and engaging in several encounters. His commendable efforts in countering naxalism earned him the President’s Gallantry Medal. Additionally, Anand has served as the Commissioner of Police for Hyderabad City, further solidifying his extensive experience in law enforcement.
