C V Anand, a senior Indian Police Service (IPS) officer, has officially assumed the role of Director General of Police (DGP) for Telangana as of May 1. Anand, who is a member of the 1991 IPS batch, previously held the position of Special Chief Secretary in the Home Department. He takes over from B Shivadhar Reddy, who retired on April 30 and will now serve as a state security advisor. Anand's career began as an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) in the Warangal Rural sub-division, where he spent the first nine years of his service in naxal-affected areas, leading operations and engaging in several encounters.
