The BJP's victory in the West Bengal Assembly elections will likely lead to the resumption of funding for crucial central schemes that had been suspended due to a longstanding dispute with the previous Trinamool Congress (TMC) government. Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan announced that the Viksit Bharat-Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission (VB-G RAM G) Act, 2025 will be implemented more swiftly. The central government had halted the release of funds for the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGS) since March 2022, citing non-compliance with directives. Before the suspension, West Bengal was among the leading states in utilizing MGNREGS, with over ₹10,000 crore spent annually. The total central share owed to the state for MGNREGS is estimated at around ₹43,000 crore, while ₹24,275 crore is pending for the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Gramin (PMAY-G). Chouhan indicated that the state could have received additional housing projects had the funding not been stopped. The state government is also requesting approval for around 2,000 km of rural roads under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY).
