Nithin Raj RL, a first-year Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) student at Kannur Dental College in Anjarakandy, Kerala, died on April 10 after falling from a building, prompting police to investigate allegations of harassment by faculty members. His parents claim he was subjected to emotional abuse due to his dark complexion and lower socioeconomic background, which they believe contributed to his tragic death. Raj's father, Rajan, reported that his son faced threats regarding his academic performance and was verbally abused by faculty, including being called derogatory names. Following the incident, the college suspended MK Ram, the Head of the Dental Anatomy Department, and Associate Professor KT Sangeetha Nambiar. The police are currently gathering digital evidence and will interview classmates and family members. The college authorities stated they are cooperating with the investigation and will take further action based on the findings.
