Students at Kannur Dental College in Anjarakandy, Kerala, protested on Thursday following the death of first-year BDS student Nithin Raj, who succumbed to injuries after allegedly being harassed by faculty members based on his caste. The protest involved students from all batches, except those taking university exams, who marched and staged a dharna in front of the college. They demanded justice for Raj and action against the faculty involved, particularly targeting MK Ram, the Head of the Dental Anatomy Department. Raj was found critically injured after falling from a building on April 10. The police have registered a case against two faculty members for abetment of suicide and under the SC/ST Act. Students expressed frustration over the college management's lack of response to their concerns and have vowed to continue the protest until their demands are addressed. They are also calling for a transparent inquiry into Raj's death, with various commissions involved in the investigation.
