ICICI Bank Ltd. has appointed Ashwani Bhatia as an additional independent director on its board for a five-year term, effective from June 1, 2026, until May 31, 2031. This decision was made by the bank’s board of directors through a resolution passed on June 1, 2026. Bhatia is not related to any current director of ICICI Bank and is not barred from serving as a director by the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) or any other regulatory authority. With over 40 years of experience in banking and financial markets, Bhatia most recently served as a Whole-Time Member of SEBI from June 2022 to May 2025, where he managed critical departments including Debt and Hybrid Securities and Market Intermediaries Regulation. His tenure at SEBI was marked by impactful orders addressing issues like fund diversion and stock manipulation. Before joining SEBI, Bhatia had a long career at the State Bank Group, starting as a Probationary Officer in 1985 and culminating in his role as Managing Director of State Bank of India (SBI).
