As diesel shortages lead to long queues at fuel stations across Odisha, the State Transport Authority (STA) has initiated a plan to create dedicated fuel outlets for buses and trucks in each district. This decision follows warnings from transport operators about possible service suspensions due to fuel scarcity. Kamal Sheel, the state head of Indian Oil Corporation Ltd, noted that panic buying had caused a 30% increase in petrol demand and a 37% spike in diesel demand over two days. To stabilize the situation, the STA has requested transport operators to identify their regular fuel stations to ensure adequate diesel supplies. Transport Commissioner Amitabh Thakur stressed the importance of collaboration between oil companies and transporters to maintain smooth operations and prevent a logistics crisis. Minister Krushna Chandra Patra reassured the public that the state has sufficient fuel reserves for 13 days and urged against hoarding. Despite the presence of refineries in Paradip, some fuel stations have experienced shortages, stranding over 1,000 trucks. The STA aims to resolve the crisis within 48 hours.
