Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal addressed the ongoing global challenges during the Confederation of Indian Industry's (CII) annual business meeting in New Delhi, describing them as a 'wake-up call' for Indian industries. He urged domestic businesses to become self-sufficient and productive, emphasizing the need to utilize free trade agreements effectively. Goyal pointed out that the current geopolitical climate, particularly the war in West Asia, disrupts global trade and investment but also presents India with a unique opportunity to strengthen its economy. He highlighted the importance of adopting electric vehicles to reduce oil imports and called for collective action to meet the ambitious USD 2 trillion export target. Goyal also encouraged industries to support one another, similar to practices in Japan and South Korea, and to focus on indigenization to mitigate supply chain risks. He urged businesses to embrace technological advancements such as artificial intelligence and robotics to enhance competitiveness and efficiency, noting the rapid growth of global capability centers in India, which are projected to grow significantly in the coming years.
