In an interview with NDTV, Nitin Nabin (BJP chief) attributed the deletion of 91 lakh voters from West Bengal's electoral rolls to the state government, asserting that the Election Commission's decisions were based on proposals from local administrative officials. He criticized Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for hindering the voter registration process, claiming that delays in processing claims were due to the state government's lack of cooperation. Nabin pointed out that while 60.06 lakh names were initially kept under review due to discrepancies, 35 lakh were reinstated after verification, and 25 lakh were permanently deleted. Despite the Supreme Court's extension for settling claims, many voters remain disenfranchised. The first phase of polling for 152 seats across 16 districts in Bengal is currently underway, with results expected on May 4 after the second phase on April 29.
