Samsung Display has reached a critical manufacturing milestone, achieving production yields exceeding 90% on its Gen 8.6 OLED production line, with some stages hitting a remarkable 95% yield. This efficiency indicates that the technology is ready for stable, large-scale mass production, with Samsung expected to start shipping these panels as early as June 2026. The initial supply estimates for the year are approximately 2 million units. These new OLED panels will incorporate 'tandem two-stack' technology, which enhances power efficiency and durability, similar to that used in the latest iPad Pro. Additionally, reports indicate that at least one of the new MacBook models, likely the rumored MacBook Ultra, will feature touchscreen capabilities. Although initial projections suggested a release in late 2026, ongoing chip shortages have pushed the expected launch window to early 2027. However, given the positive manufacturing signals, Apple may still aim for its traditional fall release schedule.
