The incident occurred when the woman received a call from someone impersonating a Wells Fargo representative, who claimed her bank accounts had been compromised. The scammer instructed her to provide her debit cards to a courier. When Michael arrived to pick her up, he noticed her carrying a bag and asking if he was the courier. Drawing on his experience as a retired police officer, he quickly recognized the situation as a scam. He advised her against complying with the scammer's instructions, despite the caller's insistence on confidentiality. Michael stayed with the woman until help arrived, and she expressed her gratitude, stating, "Angels are everywhere." The Yavapai County sheriff’s office has issued a warning to the public about similar scams, urging vigilance and advising individuals to report any suspicious calls to law enforcement or their banks directly.
